Khanderaopura Transformation Program, Padra Taluka, Vadodara District, Gujarat, Bharat
At present it is a clean village & nationally recognized "Zero Waste" village. At present we are carrying out exercise to prepare landscape concepts and designs for the transformation of the village. The design team will employ restorative & sustainable landscape design principles to prepare the plan.
We want to give best possible residential experience to residents by retrofitting existing residential communities. Our approach is landscaping the existing societies to achieve following:
- Create community vegetable and fruit gardens
- To fight heat island effect: Plant native climate resistant shady trees & install canopies
- To prevent water logging in the monsoon: Install Rain water harvesting
- To reduce dust: Carryout thick plantation and pavements
- Declutter: Attempt will be made to underground all cables
- Uniformity: Ensure that the pavements are same outside houses
- Beauty: use art and crafts, beautiful signboards. Beautiful oversized dustbins
- Community furniture: Identification of places, shades, trees and dustbin
- Wow factors: Gates, lights & spiral lights on trees
- Organizing the village street
- Improve waste collection
- Increase tree cover on streets
- Beautify existing public places e.g. school, temples etc.
Overall objective: The overall aim is to motivate/guide to the village to the next step. We will assist the villae to materialize the design & plan to create Bharat's first "Beautifully Landscaped Zero Waste Village". We want to create a good example which can catalyze transformation of many villages near & far.
Refer to our vision for Bharatiya villages and refer "site visit report" of the village in "File Share" section (click "More" to access "File Share" section). The report outlines how the village used to be and what kind of projects are carried out to turn it into a Zero Waste Village.
WHY KHANDERAOPURA IS SELECTED AND OUTLINE OF JOURNEY OF THE VILLAGE SO FAR
Just few years back, the village was in very bad shape and at one point village had severe Cholera outbreak which killed many people. The village had to reengineer & reinstall water and drainage water systems. Assisted by an NGO, village started a transformation process.
The village punchayat (governing body) wants to continue push for the transformation in the village & nearby area. Hence they are our motivated partner in the process.
Below is outline of remarkable journey of this village.
